Making A Really Good Omelette

Making a really good omelette is a test of one’s cooking skills. Eggs and butter are the basics for this recipe, along with a good skillet.

A Really Good Omelette

While making an omelette may seem simple, many have made it wrong many times. There are many reasons that an omelette may not turn out the way you would like. Most of the time, it’s due to poor cooking. If you are making the same mistakes as the chefs, it is pointless looking at photos of gourmet cooking. These are the basics of making an omelette.

Get an omelette pan before you begin cooking. Non-stick pans are fine and are easier to use. You can use a nonstick skillet or you can use your electric griddle. These work great for omelettes because of their large non-stick surface and even heat.  You will also need a sturdy spatula, preferably one made of silicone rubber.  A flimsy spatula will mean a tough time flipping your egg dish.  This is a basic but well known trick when it comes to making a really good omelette.

Use Room Temperature Eggs

Room temperature eggs work best so let them sit on the counter for 30 minutes.  Crack the eggs into a mixing bowl, then whip well with a whisk.  You want to break up the yolks and blend them well with the whites.  Add a bit of water and maybe some butter, but don’t add any other ingredients yet.

Making The Best Omeletter On An Electric Griddle

Before adding the eggs to the pan, combine the beaten eggs and any other liquids. The exact cooking time depends on the recipe, but the egg should be cooked only one or two minutes to get the most out of their protein. In a rush, you can simply make your omelets immediately and then serve them.

You mix the other ingredients such as breakfast meats or vegetables and spread them out in your skillet or electric griddle. Cooking them a bit before adding them to your omelette will help make sure they are cooked all the way through.  Melt butter in your pan or on your skillet and let it bubble.  Pour the egg mixture and let them start to cook.  Add your other ingredients on one half of the egg mixture and let the eggs cook and set.  After the eggs have set, use your spatula to flip the side that doesn’t have the ingredients over, then flip the entire omelette.  Let cook for a minute or two, then serve.
